Late in the 2002 when directory submissions was considered as the most important strategy in offsite optimization, many SEO companies offered this service. With the introduction of free directories like PHPLD, FFA scripts several SEO companies and individuals tried to cheat Google algorithm with the network of directories with an intention to achieve front page rankings. Later in 2004 Google reduced the importance of directory links except for a handful of authority directories like DMOZ.
